A society wedding interrupted by deadly violence sends the bride into hiding in this romantic thriller by two New York Times bestselling authors.

Rory Abernathy’s wedding to Liam Bastian was supposed to be the event of the season. Instead, it was a bloodbath. Rory fled after stabbing a masked intruder, just before a gunman opened fire on the wedding party. Five years on, Rory still has no idea who was behind the attacks. Fearful she and her daughter remain targets, she’s made a new life far from Liam and the wealthy, powerful Bastians.

But even in remote Point Roberts, Washington, Rory can’t hide from the past. Liam tracks her down, stunned to learn they have a child. Did someone in Rory’s family try to kill him for his portion of the Bastian estate? As they gradually overcome distrust in search of the truth, Rory knows one thing for certain: someone is watching her…

Time has passed, but the killer’s need for vengeance hasn’t. And as a nightmare stirs to life again, Rory will find that this time, there’s nowhere left to run . . .

From the Publisher

One Last Breath

We, Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush, the authors of One Last Breath, are sisters. We began our writing careers on typewriters in the early 1980's when we were mothers with young children. Over the years we’ve written separately and together and have always talked out our plots and edited each other’s work.

After writing four books in the 'Wicked' series about a secluded cult of sisters with unique esp-like qualities, we decided to come up with a stand alone book with a different set of characters. After many hours of talking it out, drinking coffee and munching on M&M peanuts–they’re healthier than regular, right?–we came up with the idea of a runaway bride who is caught up in a murder mystery. We thought a first scene of a wedding gone badly wrong, complete with murder and mayhem would be a great place to start the book. So we started researching outdoor weddings in the Seattle area. (How fun is that?)

Then, of course, we needed a spot for Rory Abernathy, our heroine/bride/runaway to hide out, so we came up with Point Roberts, Washington which is actually an exclave of the United States located on the very south of a peninsula attached to British Columbia. You have to drive through Canada to reach it by land, so it’s very unique. Or, you can access the town by boat. Hmmm. Why not have our heroine hide out there leaving the hero Liam Bastian stranded, humiliated and, yeah, even harmed in the attack?

We went for it. As it turned out, Point Roberts was a fun place to research and we think created a special setting for One Last Breath. It’s little known, but you can read more about Point Roberts here:

After the first scene at the wedding, when the bride disappears, we were able to move the story to Point Roberts and then, later, incorporate most of the coastal Pacific Northwest in the ensuing chapters. So we had some great times with our characters in Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon.

All in all we loved writing Liam and Rory’s story. You can order your copy right here.

Not Worth It!

Not Worth It!
I am a huge fan of all Lisa Jackson’s books, but this one was beyond awful. This book had to have been written by her sister, Nancy Bush, using Lisa Jackson’s name as bait to make people buy it. The story starts off okay, but then goes downhill from there. Too many “filler” people....meaning she added a bunch of people to the story who were not needed, and really just made the storyline more stupid. I am usually unable to guess the bad guy in novels, but this one....I knew right away. Very disappointing and stupid ending. As an avid reader of Lisa Jackson, buyer beware. If the book says Lisa Jackson\Nancy Bush.....log out...better yet...just the leave the book at the store.

Amazing mystery. Lots of twists and turns. The Bastians are very wealthy but so dysfunctional. They are blaming all their problems on Rory after she has returned after five years. She disappeared before her wedding. She returns with a child and Liam is still in love with her.

One Last Breath is a great read. I didn't want to skip a word. Loved the story with Rory running out on her wedding and Liam left wondering what happened. A lot of questions before the resolution like who were the intended victims of the shooting, and who is the mysterious villain. I was caught hoping that Liam found and then didn't find Rory, but he did and events worked out splendidly. The supporting characters were well scripted and played their parts well. Not surprised that the two separate attacks were independent of each other. This was one of those book where I was surprised at the villain and then wondered how I had missed the signs of who it was. You will not be disappointed in reading this book.

A good story with a nice twist. Just one comment on the writing--too much redundancy, indicative of trying to fill space without serving a purpose although it does not detract from the story. I personally prefer a bit more brevity.

I really likes this plot line. It was interesting and kept me guessing until the end. I had figured out the male antagonist but the female eluded me until she was revealed. The end and epilogue felt rushed. Like the the climax hit but was over as soon as it happened. Left that feeling of wanting more.
