I haven't had the occurance to notice how this changes my clothes. I don't notice anything. I'm sure using more would have more effect and I'm sure that citric acid (that's all this is) does do SOMETHING to clothing, but the design of this bottle is all I can think about.It's a wide mouth design. Why? For those 3-cup glugs within 0.5 seconds? What does this benefit? The top is also short... Why? It's gonna be poured... The cap also isn't a measurer, and doesn't serve any purpose but to be a cap. It works fine, bit it's got a tapered design against the bottle which seems like they're trying to do it wrong at this point as it encourages slipping off - especially with such a short cap. However I use this in my machine, I'm dumping it from inches above the fill. I hate it - I do not recommend and also it's just a mild acid, not even as strong as lemon juice and is on there for 15 mins max in a wash cycle. How much can it actually even do?

    I have been using the fragrance-free version of Downy Rinse & Refresh (I am almost through my second bottle). This product does a fabulous job of removing odors from loads of laundry -- icky towels, boy smells, etc. The laundry comes out soft and smelling like -- well, nothing, which is what I want! (I don't care for any type of perfume so the fragrance free suits us well). MAJOR CON: The bottle is a befuddlement. The cap is not really meant to be filled for a dose, and there are no instructions on how much to use. Regardless, I use the cap because if I pour directly from the bottle, the liquid inevitably spills and/or drips down the sides of the bottle -- and the liquid is a little tacky/sticky, so I am constantly wiping down the bottle and elsewhere. Make a spout on this bottle! It's a spilling mess. And tell us how much to use (not by referring to a washing machine dispenser, but based on "cap-ful" or some other actual measuring unit). Except for the bottle, this is a 5+ star product!

    Works a treat, plus doesn't leave any other odor. It'll work great for most all of your laundry.

    I will say if you are washing say gym clothes then a splash of vinegar in the laundry may be needed as well, polyester doesn't like to let go of the bacteria oil combo in sweat. It's a whole thing, anyway if you find this isn't working that's probably the issue. If the splash of vinegar in the soak cycle doesn't help or is too much of a pain to time let the gym clothes soak for like 15-30 minutes in a bucket of warm water with half cup to a cup of vinegar (depending on stank). Then run through through the wash with this & regular detergent with an extra rinse. Do not use fabric softener, that's just creating a layer of fat/wax for the sweat to stick to & makes it so that the sweat & stink can stay on your clothes longer. Hope that helps!

    For most of my life I've lived in places that had a standard non-HE washing machine, and I never really had any issues with laundry. Simpler times, I guess. But the last few places that I've lived have all had HE washers, and like a lot of people, I found myself in a constant struggle with them. My clothes never felt clean. If I used a reasonable amount of detergent (say 1-2 tbsp), my clothes would come out feeling greasy and still smelling dirty. But if I used more detergent to try and counteract that, then my clothes would come out feeling soapy, even with an extra rinse. Sometimes I'd have to do three or four rinse cycles to get all the soap out of my clothes, which means laundry takes upwards of two or three hours to do. Even using a "heavy" wash cycle didn't really do anything. It all felt kind of absurd.

    So, I tried this product after hearing about it online and I have to say it honestly surpassed all expectations. I'm shocked. The first time I used it I noticed an immediate difference in that my clothes felt and smelled...clean. Deodorant stains that had been on my clothes for months were gone. No more weird "sorta clean" clothes smell. No more oily feeling left on the clothes, or soapy residue. If you're having any of these problems and you have a HE washer, I'd really recommend giving this stuff a try. If you have a standard non-HE washer...I dunno. Unless you use way too much detergent, I don't think this stuff will do much for you.

    My clothes typically don't have strong odors, so I can't judge this product on odor removal. What I like about it is that the clothing fabrics feel thicker somehow. I prefer this to Downy Fabric Softener because I don't like the feel of fabrics when softener has been used. Also, Downy Softener solidifies in the bottle before I can use it up.

    I agree with other reviewers about the bottle and the cap. But my washer does not have a dispenser, so I use the Downy Ball. It works perfectly with this product, and it is easy to pour the product into the Ball.

    I also agree that the product is pricey. My local stores do not carry the unscented version, so I purchase it from Amazon, which involves a lot of packaging, but at least I get free shipping with Prime. Thank you, Amazon.

    When I read other reviewers complaining about the bottle I thought they were being a little critical. However, the bottle really is very cheap and flimsy. The picture on Amazon show a small spout on it too. That’s not there either. You have to grip the bottle with two hands and carefully pour the right amount in. Between the thin flimsy bottle and the open top it really does make for a tricky pour. The stuff does seem to work though.
