      My first impression of this thermometer was that it was large. That is not, however, a bad thing, as it makes it easy to hold and read. Operation couldn't be simpler - just open to turn on and close to turn off. The back of the unit has a handy list of "safe" meat temperatures - this would be more convenient if it was on the front, so you could directly compare it to the reading, but all the same it is nice that it is included.

      The battery cover is held on with a small screw, and the screwdriver needed to open it is included - this is a nice touch, though any small screw driver could work.

      For storage, there is a large loop at the end for hanging on a hook, or there is a built-in magnet, which I found to be plenty strong enough to hold the unit to my fridge without issue.

      Overall, this appears to be a fine choice for a thermometer, well worth considering.

      Ever since coming across this style temp probe I have come to realize the backlit displays shut off too soon. They are set to shut off after 10 seconds. That's just barely long enough for it to power up. By the time you get the probe in the meat the backlight shuts off and now you need to press the button to have it come on. Even though it looks like everyone of these is made in the same factory the button for the backlight isn't in the same position. Finally I decided enough was enough and replaced both of the old style ones with two of these.

      Thes d feel like they read the temp quicker than the old style ones. Faster is better but I never felt like the old ones were too slow. There's no useless information like a meat temp chart that only a noob would use. If you have a thermometer like this chances are you know what temp you are looking for.

      You don't even need to press any buttons. It turns on automatically when the probe is extended and shuts off when it's retracted. I compared both of these thermometers and the two old ones they replaced and they are all within 2 degrees (F) of each other. That's more than accurate enough for me.

      The batter door has a screw holding it closed. The old style uses a smaller 2032 battery and a dime can open the door. The AAA battery should last longer so replacing it shouldn't happen very often. Plus if you drop it the door isn't going to pop off sending it and the battery across your deck sending you on a hunt to retrieve them. It does have an auto off feature. After a minute and a half if the temp doesn't change it'll turn off. That's more than long enough unless you check the temp and forget to fold the probe back in to shut if off before setting it down.

      I know this is not the first thing about this item to mention, but I feel absolutely compelled to say that this item has a MAGNET on the freakin' back that makes it easy to just stick to the grill for safe-keeping. You wouldn't know it's there - I didn't know it was there - until it decided it wanted to hang on to the grill. This is an absolutely brilliant touch and gives you some insight as how easy and useful this thing is.

      Some meat thermometers try to overdo it by giving you a phone app that sometimes works (often doesn't) and means you have to have the probes charged, the phone with you, etc. This particular thermometer is fully self-contained. The probe is attached. The screen is large and easy to read. You stick the needle into the meat, the screen reads the temperature. You want to switch between Fahrenheit and Celcius? Press the button. Easy peasy, lemon squeasy.

      Another nice touch of this device is that it for some reason has an accelerometer/gyro or whatever in it so it knows which was is up. That's right. If you rotate it so that the display is upside down, the display FIXES ITSELF TO BE RIGHT SIDE UP. This is nothing short of phenomenal. And another small touch like the magnet that makes this a superb item and definitely a thing you should not forget outside, because this thing is going to be your grillin' buddy, moreso than the dog, who is honestly just there in case you drop something.

      The temp reads quickly and accurately and will make you a grill wizard in no time.
